On Thursday, September 4, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on the UZ Gent campus for the new core hospital with underground parking (joint venture Blaton-Wyckaert-Cordeel), as well as the new Radiotherapy Park, Energy Building and emergency psychiatry facility (STRABAG Belgium). Five UZ Gent employees took a seat in an excavator and symbolically carried out the groundbreaking together  — a major milestone for the future of the university hospital campus and for us as a consctruction partner!

The following speakers took the floor during the ceremony: Prof. Dr. Frank Vermassen (Managing Director of Ghent University Hospital), Simon Ossieur (Sweco), Glenn De Letter (STRABAG Belgium), Johan Franceus (joint venture Blaton-Wyckaert-Cordeel) and Petra Demoor (Project Manager of the new build projects of Ghent University Hospital).

Glenn De Letter, Administrative and Financial Director STRABAG Belgium Region South/West, stated: "Our project may be the little brother of the main project, but technically it is at least as challenging: deep construction pits, limited site space in the heart of the hospital campus, the construction of radiation bunkers in heavyweight concrete and a tight delivery deadline. With our extensive and highly experienced project team, we are fully prepared to execute this project successfully!"
