Grand opening of the Antwerp Police Regional Office

Monday, September 15, marked the official opening of the new regional office of Antwerp Police Zone - Region West on Lange Gasthuisstraat - a milestone for the city and for us as a construction partner. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Mayor of Antwerp Els van Doesburg, Chief of Police Serge Muyters, and Antwerp Governor Cathy Berx.

Commissioned by AG Vespa and in close collaboration with Collectief Noord architecten, ARA-Architecten, B-bis architecten, Landinzicht, Sweco and Util, STRABAG Belgium realised this turnkey project in the historic centre of Antwerp. The result? A modern, functional and sustainable police station that perfectly meets the needs of Region West of PZ Antwerp.

What makes this project special?

• Restoration of historic facade on Lange Gasthuisstraat
• New construction of two buildings with underground parking garage
• Green interior gardens that connect the buildings and provide natural light
• Complex execution due to limited site space and various technical challenges
• Innovative architectural techniques, such as the integration of vaulted concrete columns and unusual skylights
• The iconic Oudaan Police Tower - the former home of Region West - remains prominently visible from the garden
