Cultuurhuis Herbakker
The city of Eeklo commissioned STRABAG Belgium to carry out the renovation of the Cultuurhuis Herbakker cultural centre.
STRABAG carried out the detailed demolition, structural works, finishing, theatrical equipment and technical installations (excluding the lift) for the cultural centre.
The existing foyer and cultural café were completely demolished while retaining the roof structure. They were then rebuilt with an enlarged layout, achieved through a reconfiguration and a small extension towards the Academy. A completely new steel framework was installed for the supporting structure, complemented by a new concrete intermediate floor for theatre storage.
The new exterior façade features a wood-aluminium curtain wall on the ground floor, while the first floor is finished with insulated sandwich panels clad in profiled and perforated metal sheets, designed to evoke the look of theatre curtains.
The entire ground floor received a new screed topped with a PU poured floor. The boxes on the upper floor were stripped internally and subsequently renovated.
Modern technical systems were installed throughout the building, including in the theatre halls. These include plumbing, central heating, electrical systems, HVAC and air conditioning. Heating is provided via air handling units and radiators. A green roof was added to the extension, further enhancing sustainability.
