RCF De Reiger
OCMW Temse entrusted STRABAG Belgium with the structural and environmental works for the new De Reiger residential care campus in Temse.
The construction of the new residential care campus De Reiger in Temse was divided into three phases to ensure that residents would not be disturbed during the works. As a result, the existing building remained in use throughout the construction period and will only be demolished once the new facility is fully completed.
The new building was necessary to meet modern care standards, as the previous rooms lacked wheelchair-accessible sanitary facilities. Without these upgrades, the care center risked losing its accreditation. The new rooms, each measuring 23.5 m², are significantly more spacious and include bathrooms equipped with both a relaxation bath and a tilting bathtub.
By early December 2023, the main building, underground parking, and surrounding site works were completed. The main building houses the entrance hall with reception, cafeteria, central kitchen, administrative offices, fitness and physiotherapy areas, open wards, a loading and unloading platform, and 68 resident rooms. The local service center is also integrated into this new structure.
A spacious underground car park with 158 spaces was constructed beneath the building and landscaped outdoor area. The 1,200 m² outdoor plaza serves both as a green space and a venue for events.
The third and final phase began in late January 2024, following the relocation of the first residents. In this phase, STRABAG carried out the structural works, roofing, and site development for the additional wing, which includes an indoor garden and 60 rooms for protected care units.
Once completed, the new residential care center will accommodate 128 residents, offering a modern, comfortable, and fully equipped environment tailored to contemporary care needs.
