Storm & Q8 projects

STRABAG Belgium was awarded the contract for the implementation of several Storm & Q8 Electric fast-charging stations.

Each project will involve the construction of a fast-charging station equipped with multiple charging points offering ultra-fast charging capabilities (up to 400 kW). The stations will supply 100% renewable energy sourced from Belgium.

Some of these fast-charging stations will be expanded through an additional contract (awarded via a separate tender) for the development of a retail unit, which may include a wide selection of sandwiches and coffee and/or a restaurant (e.g. McDonald's).

Four different concepts are possible:

  • 1) Small site: a fast-charging station consisting solely of charging infrastructure and charging bays, either with lighting columns or a canopy.
  • 2) Medium site: similar to a small site, but with the addition of a shop. For the shop, the scope includes the wind and watertight shell construction. The finishing will be outsourced to another contractor.
  • 3) Large site: similar to a small site, but with the addition of a restaurant: For the restaurant, the scope includes the wind and watertight shell construction. The finishing will be outsourced out to another contractor.
  • 4) Extra large site: similar to a small site + shop + restaurant (wind and watertight shell construction).

Storm & Q8 project Dinant

For the project in Dinant, STRABAG Belgium was awarded the contract for the development of a small site. On a large existing car park at Carrefour, we will construct a canopy (CLT with green roof) covering six charging bays over an area of 30 by 5 metres.

The project in Dinant is scheduled to start in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by October 2025.

Storm & Q8 project Ciney

For the project in Ciney, STRABAG Belgium was awarded the contract for the development of an extra-large site. On an undeveloped plot of land measuring 130 by 50 metres, we will construct a canopy (26 by 6 metres) in CLT, a shop (350 m²) in CLT, and a McDonald’s restaurant (600 m²).

The left section of the site falls under our framework agreement with Q8, for which we are responsible for delivering the canopy, the shop, and the associated infrastructure. The right section of the site concerns the McDonald’s restaurant and its adjacent infrastructure, which we will deliver under a separate contract awarded by McDonald’s.

The shop will be delivered as a wind- and watertight shell, while the McDonald’s restaurant will be fully constructed by STRABAG, in collaboration with ancillary contractors.

The Q8 project is scheduled to start in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by February 2026. The McDonald’s project will begin in August 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2025.

Storm & Q8 project Tielt

For the project in Tielt, STRABAG Belgium was awarded the contract for the development of a small site. On an existing site, we will construct a canopy (CLT with green roof) covering ten charging bays.

The project in Tielt is scheduled to start in October 2025 and is expected to be completed by March 2026.
