Takeda Lessines

Pharmaceutical company Takeda awarded STRABAG Belgium the contract for the closed shell works of a medicinal product manufacturing facility.

The building comprises a largely precast concrete structure, with two storeys, each featuring a mezzanine level and a penthouse. The project was a fast-track development, with the design process continuing throughout the construction phase.

To enable subcontractors to commence their works as early as possible, STRABAG opted to develop the shell construction planning in 4D. In this approach, the structural works were divided into left and right sections. During construction, the client's production processes were further defined, resulting in numerous changes and requests for additional works. This significantly increased the contract value.

The execution of this project was a challenge in every respect: extremely tight scheduling, stringent safety and quality requirements from the client, and highly labour-intensive coordination with ancillary contractors. STRABAG Belgium successfully delivered the works to the satisfaction of a demanding client, the designers, and the engineering firm.

Preliminary acceptance took place in July 2024, followed by a second provisional acceptance for the additional works at the end of 2024.
