De Gendarmerie

STRABAG Belgium was entrusted with the turnkey construction of ‘De Gendarmerie’, a new multifunctional neighbourhood centre in Aalst.

The new building houses a daycare centre, a social grocery, a neighbourhood restaurant, and a multipurpose event hall.

STRABAG Belgium’s scope included the demolition of the former gendarmerie buildings on the site, as well as structural works, finishing, technical installations, and landscaping.

De Gendarmerie serves as a vibrant social hub in the heart of Aalst, where people can (re)discover their talents. It also offers a green space for all residents, with special attention to those less connected to the labour market. Organisations that support talent development are welcomed here, alongside initiatives from individuals, entrepreneurs, and public services.
