The ELIA Service Center in Kruisem has obtained the DGNB Sustainable Construction Sites certification with a score of 77%. This makes the project not only a first for STRABAG Belgium, but also the very first construction site in Belgium to be officially certified under the new DGNB methodology.

What is DGNB?

DGNB (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen) is an independent organisation that develops standards for sustainable construction. It looks beyond the end result of a project and assesses the sustainability of the entire construction process, from planning through to completion. The focus includes site organisation, communication, health and safety, resource protection and quality of execution.
By awarding this certification, DGNB sets a clear benchmark for sustainable construction site processes and recognises that the ELIA Service Centre site was organised and managed in a structured and future‑oriented way.

Sustainability as a guiding principle on site

From the very start of the project, strong emphasis was placed on sustainability, not only through a building design aimed at reducing the ecological footprint of the new facility, but also in the way the site itself was managed. Several integrated measures on the construction site included:

These measures demonstrate that sustainability was structurally embedded in the daily organisation and execution of the works.

A Belgian first and a meaningful recognition

We are proud of this Belgian milestone, which confirms STRABAG Belgium’s leading role in sustainable construction and site management. Our sincere thanks go to the entire team for their daily commitment and collaboration.
